By far the best beach in Turkey is at Olu Deniz it’s the prettiest and probably the most photographed. Even the name Olu Deniz sounds enticing however in reality it literally means Dead Sea – its ok there is no sinister meaning behind it; it simply refers to its ultra calm waters – which are perfect for children to swim there. It must be nice as it was voted one of the top ten beaches in the world!
Olu Deniz is a picture postcard setting and it has appeared more times than I can recall on holiday brochures and holiday magazine covers for example. As soon as we see that beautiful blue lagoon and vast white silky, sandy beach we need to go there and go there straight away. We all dream of the perfect escape even if its just for a couple of weeks, but if I told you it doesn’t only have to be for 2 weeks per year, would you be interested to learn more? Yes, I bet you would, most people are!
Most of us dream of owning our own place abroad, a home away from home where we can go to for some sunshine, lie on the beach and to relax. I’m not going to say there are lots of property for sale in Olu Deniz because there isn’t, once people buy there they usually stay, why would they sell? They have their own piece of paradise and they don’t want to sell up and move on and I don’t blame them!
However, all is not lost as this part of Turkey is particularly beautiful with many delightful resorts and locations close to Olu Deniz. It may be difficult to buy property there but you can be very close to it by buying at one of the resorts nearby such as Ovacik or Hisaronu which are just a 10 minute drive from the glorious lagoon at Olu Deniz.
Property prices are a little higher than other resorts but it’s worth the extra money to be so close to a picturesque location. You can currently snap up a 3 bedroom and 3 bathroom detached villa from under £160,000 set in mature gardens and with a private swimming pool. There are amazing views from this villa as it is set next to the Babadag Mountain where you can watch the Paragliders jump from the mountain and soar over the lagoon its an exciting sight I can tell you.
If your budget is a little tight you can currently find a 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms apartment on a delightful complex just 20 minutes away from Olu Deniz for less than £45,000 and as a bonus it is fully furnished. There is a communal pool and gardens and just a short walk to shops and restaurants and only a 10 minute drive to the centre of Fethiye.
If you don’t want to rent a car you don’t need to as the local bus service called a Dolmus runs all over Turkey, they are reliable and very cheap. You can easily catch the Dolmus in to Olu Deniz or Fethiye and they usually run every 10 or 15 minutes in high season. Take a picnic to the beach or eat at one of the cafes close by, the choice is yours.
Olu Deniz attracts families, couples and groups of friends, groups tend to holiday in Hisaronu as this area is more lively and nightlife is bustling there. The Fethiye area in general is welcoming to all tourists and with plenty to see and do it’s a great location for a holiday or to have a holiday home. It is also a popular destination for expats and there is a good expat community there who arrange a whole host of days out on sightseeing tours and activites. You can participate as much as you choose or just dip in and out wherever the mood takes you.
When you visit Olu Deniz you would be forgiven for thinking you were in the Caribbean or any other exotic location – the beauty of that is that you don’t have to fly long haul it’s a mere 4 hour or less flight from the UK and the rest of Europe. It is simply a haven of peace and tranquility with the most stunningly beautiful views Turkey has to offer.
So, if you haven’t booked your summer holiday yet, why not look at late deals in the Olu Deniz area? I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
